Gene Pickard | Christian Theology and Friends History and Beliefs
Gene Pickard is eagerly anticipating his third class with us on Friends History and Theology, and we are equally eager to learn from him. In his first two classes he has filled us abundantly with knowledge about foundational Christian theology and the beliefs of several church denominations, comparing them with Quakerism. He will continue this comparison on Monday, April 1, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. central time.
Gene is a true Friend in the spirit of Jesus, who promised, “You are my friends if you do what I command you” (John 15:14). Gene is faithful to Jesus’ commands, the two greatest of which are to love God and to love your neighbor. Gene’s academic background includes the Bachelor’s degree from Friends Bible College (Barclay College), the Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological seminary, and the Doctor of Missiology degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Gene loves the Friends Church, which has been his spiritual heritage since he was born. Gene is very much a family man. He is married to Myra. They have two children, Heather Haase and Jason Pickard, and they are blessed with four beautiful grandchildren. Often we will see Gene in fellowship with Heather on the Barclay College campus. Frequently when Gene is gone, he and Myra are visiting Jason and their grandchildren. I cherish Gene as my fellow Quaker minister and a brother in Christ.
