Dear Friends in the Church Leadership Institute for Ministry,
All four Gospels climax their account of Jesus with His death and resurrection, and throughout the Old Testament, especially among the prophets, is the prophecy of Christ and His crucifixion and resurrection. Truly, the writings in the entire Bible point to these supreme, miraculous events, and they contain the ultimate truths of life. We will be exploring these truths in the next six months in our Institute classes. We will consider the Old Testament at our next class on August 3, then again on September 14, and October 5. When completing the Old Testament, we will search the beauty and truths of the New Testament on November 2, December 7, and January 4, 2021. Additionally, we are greatly blessed that Bible scholar Dr. Glenn Leppert will be our professor.
Glenn Leppert has given faithful leadership at Barclay College for one-third of the college’s more than one hundred-year history. He has served as Interim President, Vice President for Registration and Grades, Academic Dean, Registrar, Chair of the Bible/Theology Department, Professor in Bible (both Old Testament and New Testament courses), Theology, History, Friends History and Beliefs, and Greek. His Greek teaching is so thorough, that when his courses are over, you cannot say, “It’s all Greek to me.” Author of the classic book on Quakerism, The Heart of Friends; Quaker History and Beliefs, Glenn also has written a college textbook on the Historical Books of the Old Testament and several textbooks on the New Testament Greek language. Glenn authored the chapter on the history of Barclay College in the book, Founded by Friends. Glenn is a prominent Greek, Bible, and Church History scholar among Friends. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwest Nazarene College, a Master of Arts in Religion from Western Evangelical Seminary, a Master of Arts degree from Ft. Hays State University, and he holds the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in History from Kansas State University. Glenn served as a high school teacher and principal for three years in Nigeria. Having earlier been a Friends pastor, Glenn is currently an elder in the Haviland, Kansas Friends Church, where he teaches a weekly Sunday school class and preaches regularly. Glenn is married to Sue, and they are the loving parents of Tricia, Emily, and Timothy, and the proud grandparents of Kaden, Cindy, Isaiah, Jacob, David, and Ellie. Glenn is known on campus as the Professor to the Professors, because whenever there are questions about the college or procedures in the college, Glenn is our expert. There is little wonder why I usually sit near Glenn in faculty meetings. He is nearby to answer any question that may arise in my mind about the college or about teaching. Glenn is eager to teach our courses in Old and New Testament.
