On May 24-27 EFM hosted a “Future Missionary Retreat” at Quaker Ridge Camp near Woodland Park, CO. Fourteen young men and women, many of whom were from EFC-MAYM, gathered with current and former missionaries (serving as mentors) for this inaugural event. Brad and Chelsea Carpenter, Matt Macy and others led the gathering as these future missionaries considered God’s call upon their lives. Many of them were impacted in significant ways.
As part of the retreat, those attending the event joined with EFM Board members and representatives from the EFC-NA regions for the national Think Tank. Reflecting back on this event, it is quite possible that what occurred during these days will have far reaching ramifications for the future of Friends missions around the globe. This group of young men and women represented a much larger group of individuals sensing a call to foreign missions in the days ahead. With our EFM strategic goal of launching 5 new mission fields and sending 10 missionary family units by the year 2025, this event provided greater clarity as to how this vision might become a reality in the next 5 years. It appears some of our best days are still ahead as representatives from our yearly meetings across North America are joining together for the cause of global missions. To learn more about and/or to financially support the EFM 5 year goal go to the EFM webpage, and join with us as we seek to do our part to fulfill the Great Commission in our day.
