It is my privilege to introduce Henry and his wife, Golapi, to you. Henry and Golapi are from the northern part of Bangladesh and have been following Jesus Christ for about three years. A little baby girl, their first child, has just joined them.
Shortly after turning from Hinduism to Jesus, the Lord awakened Henry early one morning and told him to leave his parents, take his wife, and move to an area without Christians. Like Abraham and Sarah, Henry and Golapi obeyed. They went to the big city for training in church planting and then moved to a village in southern Bangladesh, eager to implement what they had learned.
However, at the end of their first year of church planting efforts, Henry was discouraged. They had worked hard, but there was nothing to show for their labor. What was wrong? As Henry pondered this question, he came to realize that he depended on study and skill, not the Holy Spirit. So as he prayed for direction, the Lord revealed the names of a couple and said, “Go tell them about me.” Again, like Abraham, Henry wasted no time in doing what he was told. He found the husband and shared the good news of Jesus with him. To Henry’s amazement, both husband and wife gave their lives to Christ the very next day!
During the last year, Henry and Golapi have started four cell groups with Muslims and Hindus who are coming to faith in Christ. Recently Albert Adhikari, an EFM missionary and mentor to Henry and Golapi, reported that these young church planters continue to learn valuable lessons. For instance, they won’t give up on those they’ve led to Christ when their newfound faith wavers because of intimidation. Henry and Golapi consistently reach out to these converts and give them the support they need-even though the cost is great.

I am encouraged when I hear about people like Henry and Golapi. Why? Because it reassures me that I am part of a worldwide movement of people who seek first the kingdom of God, planting churches that live and die to carry out the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment. This is EFM’s purpose and passion, and I know it’s a purpose and passion close to the Lord’s heart.
I hope the story of this young couple encourages you. And I hope the thought of being part of this worldwide movement inspires you as it inspires me. But I also want you to know that when you pray for and give to EFM, you are contributing directly to a very fruitful movement. Through your prayers and financial support, people like Henry and Golapi get to hear the good news of Jesus Christ, respond to it, and take it to others.
Stories like Henry and Golapi’s are being told wherever EFM is working: Mexico, Ireland, Rwanda, India, Nepal, Bhutan, the Philippines, and Muslim-background believers in Europe and the Middle East. But these stories won’t decrease-they will increase. In fact, we are looking forward to more stories emerging from our newest fields in Ecuador and northern India.
Please spend a few moments prayerfully pondering how the Lord would have you respond to this mid-year offering opportunity for EFM’s ministries. And then, like Abraham, Sarah, Henry, and Golapi, be faithful to do what he directs you to do.
Thank you for your prayerful attention to this letter.
