Stacey D. Wheeler | EFC-MAYM Director of Communications and Church Planting Support
On Tuesday, January 28th, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. thirteen people gathered on Zoom to pray for EFM sponsored missionaries and the three areas EFC-MAYM has been asked to cover in prayer: Mexico, South Sudan, and Tanzania. The hour began with several people sharing scriptures that were on their hearts, including:
Luke 5:4-11
. . . [Jesus] said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Matthew 21:22
“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
The agenda for the hour included praying for three main areas:
- Pray for Maria and Edwin Giron and Mexico
- Pray for Tanzania, Africa: Connie Young sharing about Tanzania and Kibimba Hospital
- Pray for missionaries to South Sudan (Brief Report about South Sudan Trip)
Maria and Edwin Giron joined us and shared about their recent travels to Bolivia, their church planting efforts in Mexico, and the deputation to five yearly meetings that they’ve begun this week. We prayed over the Girons, asking God to watch over them as they travel and to provide for all of their needs. We prayed they would be 100% funded at the end of their deputation. Maria emailed information for those who want to support them financially:
There are four ways to partner with Maria and Edwin financially:
- Online. You’ll be given the opportunity to indicate whether you are making a recurring or one-time gift.
- Credit Card. This may be given online (as linked above) or by calling the EFM office (303-421-8100) to give your information to a live person.
- Automatic Bank Transfer. Download the form here and email it to Debby McElroy (EFM Bookkeeper). Please note that ACH payments are processed on the 10th or 25th of the month.
- Check. Mail a check to EFM, P.O. Box 771139, Wichita, KS 67277. Make sure to mark your check “Giron Support” and note if you will be giving on a recurring basis (monthly, quarterly, etc.). Pay to the order of “EFM.”
Connie Young shared about Kibimba Hospital. There is a new website where people can discover more about current projects and how to give: www.fkhosp.org. There is a Facebook group for Friends of Kibimba Hospital as well. Connie asked for prayer for a young doctor-in-training who is also named Elisée, interestingly enough. He is the son of a previous Burundi Yearly Meeting Legal Representative and was chosen by the current Dr. Elisée as his replacement when he retires. He is in the training program at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, in Tanzania. His successful completion of training leads to his qualification of Fellowship of College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa. He has four years to finish the program and the majority of the Friends of Kibimba Hospital board approved supporting him at the cost of $32,000, equaling $8,000 per year. We prayed for this new doctor in training and also prayed for the current Dr. Elisée as his son has recently passed away. EFM and EFC-MAYM are collecting donations to help with the cost of shipping his son’s body home from Kenya:
Online giving for Dr. Elisée can go here: https://catalog.friendsmission.com/onlinegiving. (Note that there is a place at the top where you can give ‘in honor of… or in memory of…’ and I recommend NOT clicking on that as it then requires more info. Rather, towards the end of the donation form it asks “where would you like your gift designated” and that is where you can say “love gift to family of Dr. Elisée in Burundi” or something like that.) Mail donations marked for love gift to Dr. Elisee’s family to: EFM, PO Box 771139, Wichita, KS 67277. If wishing to donate with credit card over phone, call EFM at 303-421-8100.
Connie also shared about some prayer concerns in Tanzania that we covered in prayer as well.
At the end of the hour, we prayed for Brad and Chelsea Carpenter, Ethan and Bethany Magnuson, and Nicodeme and Annonciata Basebya and their daughter Joy who will be moving from Rwanda to South Sudan to become missionaries there in 2025, Lord willing. God is moving!
The Online Hour of Prayer for EFM meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 6:00-7:00. Email Stacey if you would like to receive the Zoom link and join us!
