Nepal is no longer in the headline news but the ground is still trembling and the relief efforts are still ongoing.
EFM has two couples and one family serving as missionaries in Nepal and they have all been there for many years. Over time each one has developed a network of relationships that includes churches and communities (many of which have churches in them). Two Evangelical Friends yearly meetings exist with about 40 churches in each. It is through these networks that food, temporary shelter, and materials for rebuilding are being distributed using the funds that you have been donating to EFM’s Emergency Fund. In the midst of this distribution, people of other religions are being blessed as well.
One of our missionaries just sent this report:
In the midst of criticism in Nepal, accusing Christians of discrimination against the Hindus in relief distribution at a time of great national crisis, the Hindus in our areas are praising our churches and believers. We gave relief food and tin to Hindu families where we have churches. These Hindus were stunned and amazed to see Christians sharing relief food with them. They joyfully and gratefully accepted what we offered to them. In one village, half of the villagers are Hindus (about 46 houses). They expressed their gratitude to the church and the believers.
Tomorrow we are going again to distribute rice, lentils, and salt to 22 Hindu families in a neighboring village where we have a church. The people in this village are starving. No relief has reached them.
My leaders and I are extremely grateful to EFM for providing funds to help the needy earthquake victims and starving people. These Hindus whom we helped, praise the Christians and Friends churches. This means they are praising the owner of the Church, Christ Jesus. Thank you!
Yes, thank you indeed! EFM is able to send funds because of your gifts.
Please continue to pray for the needs in Nepal. Much wisdom is needed as we begin to turn our attention more towards the long-term need of reconstruction. And it would boost the morale of the people of Nepal a great deal if the ground stopped moving. We’d like to see God answer that prayer.
