For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
We have a robovac by the name of Bob. No kidding. I didn’t give him that name, it was his name when we ordered him several years ago. Bob’s purpose in life is to keep our floor clean. Once every 2-3 weeks while Kristin is away at school, I will release Bob from his charger so he can do what he was created to do…clean our floors.
Bob will go wherever I allow him to go in our house. But there are several areas of our house Bob cannot go. Bob cannot go down our stairs. Bob cannot go over cords. Bob cannot go over rugs or thick carpet. So, in preparation to release Bob I go around the house and block off those areas where Bob cannot go (for his own good!), and then I let him go. Once finished, Bob returns back to his charging station.
Sometimes, however, even though I have attempted to protect Bob from any harmful areas, Bob finds a way to go someplace he shouldn’t go. Just a week or so ago I sent Bob off for the day, but I failed to pick up the rugs in our guest bathroom. Later on that day, I heard some strange noises followed by several beeps. When I went to check on Bob, I found him on top of a rug, stuck, and unable to free himself.
I proceeded to pick Bob up and set him on the hard floor. But it was as if Bob didn’t know where to go or what to do. He simply sat there with a yellow light blinking. So, I picked Bob up and took him back to the charging station. Once I set him down and reconnected him with “The Source” he was ready to go and off he went again.
Bob is not so different that you and me. God created each of us for a purpose. He gave us His Word as the only means available to us to get to know Him. As we “charge” ourselves for the day by connecting with Him through His Word we discover His will and plan for our lives.
Every day we start out on a journey to fulfill God’s calling for that day. If we heed the warnings God places before us through His Word, we do His will under the power of the Holy Spirit, and then return to His Word for additional fuel and recharging.
Sometimes, however, I get off course. Sometimes I maneuver into places God never intended for me to be. Way too often I get stuck by not heeding the warning signs and staying on the path God has for me. When that happens, I am grateful God doesn’t just leave me there, but that he frees me from my misguided thoughts, ideas and actions and returns me to the truth as I recognize my need for His intervention.
I am guessing you are not much different than me. My story is likely your story as well.
Thank You God for Your Word that teaches me Your ways, and Your Spirit that applies Your Word to my life in order to lead me into truth and freedom. I am grateful!
