The Run for Missions is a 100-mile run which provides money to the Evangelical Friends Church Mid America “Missionary Blessing Fund” (MBF). The MBF exists to support Evangelical Friends Mission (EFM) workers in continuing their education.

This year, after a 2-year hiatus, the 100-mile run will begin at the Friends Ministry Center in Wichita, 2018 W. Maple Street, in Wichita, Kansas, on Thursday, October 17, at 9:00am. It will end sometime on Friday, October 18, at the Ross-Ellis Center on the Barclay College campus in Haviland, Kansas, 600 N. Main Street! Periodic updates will be posted to the “Run for Missions” page: facebook.com/runformissions.

The Run for Missions will accept straight donations or pledges per mile. Checks may be written payable to EFC-MAYM with “Run for Missions” in the memo line and mailed to the Friends Ministry Center, 2018 W. Maple St., Wichita, KS 67213. You can also give online by clicking here.

Mark Rucas will be the main runner making the 100-mile trek from Wichita to Haviland this year. In his own words, here’s why he’s doing it and his personal invitation to join him in some way:

“This year I started asking God if there was something more than tithing that he would like me to do. I have been giving money to my church and missions on a regular basis, but I wanted to do more. It turns out God had something for me to do. He reminded me that I have been sitting in Sunday school for the last two years, looking at a trophy that our church brought home from the 2016 Run for Missions 5K in Haviland and he knows I really like supporting missionaries, so he asked me to revive the Run for Missions 100-mile fundraising run.
I got this picture in my mind of Jesus showing up at the Friends Ministry Center in 2017 and 2018, hanging out for a few minutes, checking his watch, looking around, finally giving up, and starting to run to Haviland by himself. He then told me that at least in 2018, it was me he was waiting on. I just hadn’t really started listening at that point. When I pictured this, I decided that if Jesus went to the cross for me, the least I could do was run 100 miles with him.
Jesus also pointed out to me that this is not just about the money. The Run for Missions is also a good way to get people thinking about missions. It would raise awareness and get people to think about supporting missionaries or possibly becoming one themselves. We all live such busy lives; we forget that 90% of what we focus on doesn’t really matter at all. The things that really matter? Our relationship with God, friends and family and through those relationships bringing more people into the Kingdom.
So, I am asking you to think about missions, to consider giving some money, to consider running a mile or 2 or 3 or 50, to definitely remember to pray for our missionaries, but most of all to really ask whether God is calling you to go. I can tell you from personal experience, God is talking to you all the time, all you need to do is take the time to listen.”
