In the Mexican state of Sinaloa, there is a Friends church plant in a small village called Siete Ejidos. I can imagine Jesus traveling through the dozens of small towns and villages in this part of Sinaloa and saying, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.” After Daniel and Carmen Velasquez began the work in Siete Ejidos and as short-term teams went to encourage and strengthen the church, many of us began to ask the Lord to send more workers. In the past 18 months Edwin Giron, an EFM missionary to Aguascalientes, helped coordinate short-term teams to Siete Ejidos. These teams were not only designed to train the Siete Ejidos church, but also to expose potential candidates who could be placed in Sinaloa on a missionary team.
Please pray for these four families as they consider moving to Sinaloa as missionaries!
Anthony and Micaiah Hughes, Haviland, KS: Anthony and Micaiah have six young children! They also have gifts in presence and relational evangelism as well as discipleship. Anthony has the gifts of encouragement and helps; Micaiah has the gifts of encouragement and hospitality. They both have the ability to teach and disciple, particularly in the context of home groups.
Alejandra and Angie Pena, Mexico State: Alejandra has pastoral gifts and believes God will use his gifts to minister in the communities of the mission while he trains new pastors and the church expands throughout the region. Alejandra has about two years of schooling before he completes his training at the Bible Institute of Mexico Yearly Meeting. His supportive church is asking Alejandra to finish his training while he pastors the local church in Mexico State before moving to Sinaloa.
Jaime and Lupita Leon, Aguascalientes, Mexico: Jaime and Lupita made decisions for Christ and have been discipled over the years by the EFM team of missionaries in Aguascalientes. Both Jaime and Lupita have the gift of leadership. Jaime has gifts in preaching and teaching; Lupita likes to gather women for fellowship and discipleship.
Lucio and Marta Santos, Juarez, Mexico: Lucio has the gift of evangelism, and he likes to gather men for fellowship. Marta loves to serve, and she will be completing her training as a nurse in January.
At the Mexico Yearly Meeting sessions held in Juarez, these four families met each other and began to take appropriate steps in discerning their calls. Pray for them as they consider the possibility of going to Sinaloa as missionaries. As you pray for these four families, please pray for Mexico Yearly Meeting and EFM as we explore the most effective ways to partner in this mission-sending effort.
