Please pray for our EFC-MAYM Saltshaker 2016 mission trip teams headed to serve this summer in Burundi and Nepal. The teams request prayer support from friends, family and from churches and church members across EFC-MAYM and beyond. Several team members are also still raising funds. Please contact adam@efcmaym.org if you are interested in supporting either of these trips with a financial (tax-deductible) donation. See more information about Saltshaker 2016 here.

Meet the Saltshaker Nepal Team
My name is Rebecca Angell and I currently live in Wichita, Kansas. I am a senior at Wichita State University and will graduate in December with my nursing degree. I love people and I love God and I am so excited to serve in Nepal. I have done two previous mission trips before to Mexico, but I know that traveling to Nepal and witnessing for Christ will continue to shape me and grow me as a follower of Jesus. My prayer for the team and myself is that we could “take on the form of a servant” (Phillipians 2:8), like Jesus did when he walked this earth, and that our lives could be living testimonies for Him. I am going with the mindset to bless, yet I also believe that my life will be richly blessed by the people of Nepal. Thank you for your prayers and support of us, we are beyond thankful!
My name is Josiah Brown and I am a senior at Friends University where I am majoring in Finance and Christian Spiritual Formation. I grew up in Chandler, Oklahoma, where I attended Chandler Friends Church. When I am in Wichita I attend Northridge Friends Church with a bunch of other crazy college students! I have been on two Saltshaker trips before this one: Kibimba Hospital/Burundi in 2012, and Bangladesh in 2014. Both of those trips have been huge contributors to my growing love for God and his mission in the world. I know that this trip to Nepal will be life changing for all of us, and I look forward to taking part in what God is doing in Nepal!
My name is Jordan Compton. I live in Wichita, KS. My husband and I serve as the Youth Pastors at Northridge Friends Church. When I first felt the pull to go to Nepal, I was reluctant because of reasons and barriers I thought I had control over; time, money, comfort. Well, God broke through those barriers and here I am preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime! I am so excited to experience Him in new ways and see how He is moving across the world.
My name is Hannah Jacobson. I am from Friendswood, Texas and attend Friendswood United Methodist Church. I am about to be in the 12th grade at Friendswood High School. I am taking this journey in hopes that is changes not only my perspective on things but it changes the lives of others. I pray that God works through me and the others on this trip. I’m very excited to see what God has for us!
My name is Adam Monaghan and I am the Director for this Saltshaker trip. I am from Wichita, Kansas and I serve as Pastor at Crossroads Friends Church and the Associate Superintendent of Global Ministries for Evangelical Friends Church Mid-America Yearly Meeting. I am really excited to be a part of the Saltshaker Nepal mission team because God has called us to be his witness to the ends of the earth (cf Mt 28:19-20, Acts 1:8). My favorite thing about missions is that God gets the glory (Ps.46:10b), the nations get the gospel (Mt. 28:19) and the church gets the “good life” of abundant blessings for being obedient and faithful to go, send, give and pray! I also really love the Evangelical Friends Church all around the world and am excited to get to partner with the churches in Nepal. The sending churches in the case of both Saltshaker trips this summer consist of seven local Friends Churches (Crossroads, Northridge, Bethel, Friendswood, Hutchinson, and Haviland, as well as Winona Friends in Ohio).
My name is Sallianne Roher and I live in Friendswood, Texas and attend Friendswood Friends Church. I am a 10th grade student at Friendswood High School. I was led to join the Saltshaker Nepal Team because I felt Christ encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone to serve others and learn how God expresses himself in a place unlike my own home, and to be able to answer God’s calling to us to be witnesses for Him to all people (Matthew 24:14). I am so excited to be a part of this team and to be able to follow Christ across borders! To God be the Glory!
My name is Rosalinda Saenz. I live in Wichita KS and go to Northridge Friends Church. I am in 10th grade and go to Heights High School. I am so thrilled to be able to go on the 2016 Saltshaker trip to Nepal. I felt led to go on this trip because my sister went on the Burundi trip a couple years ago and she came back with these amazing stories and new experiences. So I thought what better way to understand her time there then to go on one myself. I’m so excited to see what God has planned for me and to see how I can help in anyway.
My name is Blake Stanfield, I am from Friendswood, Texas, and I attend Friendswood Friends Church. I just finished the 11th grade at Friendswood High School. I am really excited to be a part of the Nepal Saltshaker trip because I went on the last trip to the Philippines and it was a blast! I had a great time serving others in the name of God and my relationship with God grew in the process. I’m very excited to help others once again experience God and have a great time doing so!
Meet the Saltshaker Burundi Team
My name is Caleb Angell, and I am from from Stanford, New York. I attend Nine Partners Meeting in New York and Northridge Friends Church in Wichita. I am entering my senior year this fall at Friends University. I have had an interest in the Burundi mission ever since meeting with and hearing from the Burundian pastors who attended Friends Summit 2014. I am quite excited for this opportunity and very much look forward to learning from Burundian Friends and serving them as best I may.
My name is Abby Brown, I just recently finished my senior year of high school in Chandler, Oklahoma. I grew up attending Chandler Friends Church with my family where I have been able to play with the worship team. I am looking forward to starting my freshman year of college in the fall wherever God leads me. I have been to Burundi twice before but never on a Saltshaker trip, and I could not be more excited. The first time I went to Burundi it captured my heart and now I want to take every opportunity I have to go back, especially with my grandparents David and Mae Kellum.
My name is Marc Compton, and I have the distinct privilege of serving as assistant director on this Saltshaker trip. I live in Wichita, Kansas with my wife Jordan and am blessed to serve the Lord at Northridge Friends Church as Pastor of Student Ministries. I am truly excited for this opportunity to serve the Lord on a short-term trip to Burundi, Africa. I have passions for youth, for missions, for furthering the kingdom, and for encouraging brothers and sisters in Christ. I look forward to this unique opportunity where I have been blessed to serve the Lord in the midst of so many of my passions. I am thankful to be a part of the Burundi Saltshaker team and I am truly excited by the possibilities of how God is going to work in and through our group.
My name is Olivia Garcia. I come from Hutchinson, Kansas, and am the daughter of two divorced parents, Tom and Jennifer, and a step-dad Jason. I am a big sister to Bella, and a younger step-sister to my step-brother Jacob. I recently brought home a now 12-week-old puppy, Leia. I am 20 years old, and am a junior in college at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas. I am pursuing a degree in Family and Counseling, while also getting a Christian education. I also take classes at K-State, and am in the program CATS, or Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies. I work at Pawnee Mental Health Services part time, and I love my job. As a mental health professional, I have the privilege of equipping children with severe emotional disturbances to reach their full potential. I love music, coffee, animals, people, lipstick, shouting “BLESSINGS” and finally, I love the Lord. I accepted Christ when I was 11 years old, and vowed to follow Him to the ends of the earth. Right now, I will follow God to Burundi, Africa. I could not be more excited!
My name is Catherine Hoppock. I live in Wichita, Kansas. I attend Northridge Friends Church and I am a Health Science student at Friends University. I am excited to be a part of the Burundi Saltshaker Team this year because I have always wanted to go to Burundi and see the different churches we support and to be involved in the hospital there. I have a desire to practice medicine in my future and I am excited to see all the different situations in the Kibimba Hospital in Burundi. I am excited what God will do in me this trip and hope to ignite my passion for missions and medicine even more.
My name is Ellen Losew and I have been married to Steve for 20 years on June 29th – our 20th anniversary will pass while I am in Burundi. I am a pediatrician in Kansas. I have a special interest in newborn care and infectious diseases. I have four children, Jace, who is on the Saltshaker team, Jack (12), Joscelyn (11), and Jessa (7). I am a runner and have done several triathlons. I also crochet.
I am Jace Losew and I am 15. I will be a sophomore at Central Christian High School this fall. I am a runner and ran for my school’s cross country and track teams last year. I also competed on the school’s swim team. I am interested in engineering. I like to sing and participate in choir. I play the clarinet in my school concert and marching bands.
I am Sarah Kelsey and I live in Hutchinson, KS. I am 27 years old and just finished my first year of my Master’s program in Family Ministry. I am currently working in a behavior support classroom for children in the fourth through sixth grade. My hobbies include hanging out with friends and family, being outside and running. My biggest passion is helping others in any way that I can. I love coming alongside other people and engaging in their lives. When this Saltshaker trip first came up, I was excited but unsure if I was supposed to go. I spent time in prayer just trying to discern if this was a trip that I was to go on. God revealed to me that He wanted me to be a part of this team. I have been on other Saltshaker trips before, but I know this one will be different. I am excited and looking forward to what God will do in and through us as individuals and as a team. Although I am nervous, I know God has big plans for this trip and for the people of Burundi. I am looking forward to seeing how God is going to use me to impact the lives of others and to glorify His kingdom. This is a big step for me, but I’m taking it in faith and allowing God to lead.
My name is Joel Macy. I’m 17 years old and will be a junior in high school. I attend Crossroads Friends Church. I am excited to go on this trip because I want to see the mission and culture in Burundi. My little brother was adopted from Rwanda, and I am interested to see the place where he is from. My dad has led several mission trips to Africa, and I want to meet the people my family has heard about and prayed for, and experience this church and culture like others before me.
Matt and Carrie Macy, along with Joel and Caleb, are so honored to participate in this Saltshaker to Burundi, Africa. While Matt has gone to Burundi more than a dozen times because of his work with EFC-MAYM and EFM, this will be Carrie, Joel and Caleb’s first trip. Matt is really looking forward to introducing some of his family to our friends in Burundi. This is Caleb’s first time to be with his own ethnic group, since we adopted him at 16 months old out of Kigali, Rwanda in September 2007. As the Saltshaker team goes home, our family will go spend 3 days in Rwanda to show Caleb his place of birth. The Macy family love to be a part of Crossroads Friends Church in Wichita and love connecting in deep ways with neighbors to seek the Kingdom of God. We also love to be a part of missions all over the world, with the most frequent visits to Burundi and to Bangladesh. Matt’s passion as associate director of EFM is to help groups of Friends churches all around the world to start their own mission fields and send their own missionaries.
My name is Rosealin Morris and I live in Salem, Ohio. I attend Winona Friends Church and I love to work with the children’s program there. I work with an after school program and childcare. I feel God has called me to do missionary work and I am so excited to be going on the Saltshaker Burundi mission trip. I cannot wait to meet new friends that are as excited as me to share the love of Jesus with others. It will be amazing to see how God uses our team in Burundi.
My name is Katie Newton and I am originally from Friendswood, TX but currently attending Barclay College in Haviland, KS. I am very excited to be a part of the Burundi Saltshaker team because my first Saltshaker trip to Bangladesh changed my life! I feel a call placed upon my life from the Lord to bring the Good News to all of the earth. Cross-cultural missions is something I am very passionate about and I have been excited about going to Burundi ever since they first announced the possibility in 2014. To belong to Jesus is to embrace the nations with Him!
My name is William “Garry” Norton, and I go to church at Bethel Friends in Hugoton, Kansas. I am from a nearby town called Rolla. I have just graduated from Rolla High School and will be attending Barclay College next fall. I am truly thrilled to have the opportunity to go to Burundi. After my mother passed away, my heart changed in a beautiful way. I was called into missions when I saw a discarded packet that asked for funding for orphans in Africa. It made me feel as if I was needed elsewhere than here in the states. I feel ready to be submerged into another culture that I’ve always loved reading about. I am ecstatic to be able to be a vessel for God to aid and assist the people I meet there.
My name is Heather Thornburg and I am from Haviland, Kansas. I currently work in the undergraduate and graduate admissions department at Barclay College. I am so blessed and thrilled to be a part of the Saltshaker Burundi trip because it is an incredible opportunity to experience the Lord working in a different culture and people. Through the changes of plans in the last year and a half with this trip, the Lord has still paved the way for me to go, which assures me this is what He has planned for me to do. I am ready to be more transformed into who I am created to be by simply being obedient to Him on this trip. I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve on the 2016 Saltshaker Burundi trip.
My name is Dave Williams and I have the privilege of serving as General Superintendent or “lead pastor” for EFC-MAYM. My parents and grandparents served as missionaries to China, so from day one I was immersed in a mission-minded environment. I thought at one time that I might be called to go to a foreign country and serve as a career missionary as well, but God has chosen instead to call me to serve as a sending and equipping pastor for those who have been called to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 20:19). Over the past 30 years I have had an opportunity to visit many of our Friends mission fields, including Burundi, and I am eager to make a return visit with the rest of this year’s Saltshaker team.
Not pictured are David and Mae Kellum (retired missionaries to Burundi) and Fran Sigley from Northridge Friends.
