Please pray for Burundi.
Presidential Elections on June 26. What was once expected to be a peaceful election is now beginning to show several signs of tension that may create some demonstrations and disruptions throughout Burundi. EFC-MAYM had a “Saltshaker” short-term team scheduled to be in Burundi this summer, which hasnow been postponed until 2016 due to these concerns. Please pray for the peace that Burundi has enjoyed for the last several years to continue.
Flood near Bujumbura, Burundi. A flood which occurred a few miles from Bujumbura at Rutunga and some other places along Lake Tanganyika has left 3,000 people without homes, 20 dead, and 15 missing. Please pray for these victims and the Burundi Friends Church as they find the best ways to respond.
You may recall that a different flood previously affected a suburb in Bujumbura, which impacted some of our Friends Churches and families. At that time, we had a generous response sent to both the EFC-MAYM and EFM offices. We were able immediately to work with Burundi leaders to help the community with emergency relief, then later with rebuilding homes, particularly for those in the church who had the greatest need. Thank you! There are still some funds remaining in that account that we are offering to Burundi leaders for emergency relief in this new situation. We will provide an update later if we discover that further funds would be appropriate.
May God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
