Ministry Conference | July 28-30, 2023
By Tony Wheeler, Ph.D. Superintendent of Pastoral and Church Health and Stacey D. Wheeler, M.A. Director of Pastoral and Church Health
As a leadership team for EFC-MAYM, we are excited to see how God is going to move throughout the weekend of July 28-30 this summer in Wichita! Our 2023 theme this year is “Encountering Jesus—Embracing the World.” The ministry conference theme verse from Jeremiah 33:3 inspires us to seek God for solutions to any spiritual or physical roadblocks encountered as we seek to both encounter Jesus and fulfill the Great Commission by embracing and loving people in the world:
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”
Jeremiah 33:3
One of the main avenues to call upon the Lord is through prayer and a dedicated life of obedience and righteousness. James 5:16b states, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (ESV). The New International Version declares, “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” or you might be more familiar with the King James Version: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” As we call on God he will answer us!
We pray that God will meet us in all that we do over Ministry Conference weekend: in our travel, our meals, our conversations with family, friends, and in meeting new people, our times of worship and prayer, our general sessions, and our business meetings.
We’re excited to try something new to us this year! Our General Sessions will be at Northridge Friends Church (Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning sessions) and at the Drury Hotel (on Saturday afternoon) in downtown Wichita. Attendees have the option of staying at the Drury where we’ve reserved a block of rooms or staying with friends or family in Wichita, where applicable (commuter price without meals for registration is $60.00). Ministry Conference might look a little different this summer as we are unable to meet on the campus of Friends University due to the Fine Arts building being under construction. We look forward to gathering at Friends at a later time in the renovated Fine Arts building! On Saturday evening, join us for “Family Night at the Ballpark,” a Wind Surge baseball game at the new Riverfront Stadium! It’s within walking distance of the Drury. Come join us as we encounter Jesus and prepare to embrace people in the world with his love!
