Madi McDonald | Rose Hill Friends Church
The Rose Hill Friends Church 28th annual auction on April 26 was more than just an auction. It felt like a reminder of what happens when people come together with the same heart and purpose. The night was full of generosity, laughter, fellowship, and so many moments that showed how God was working through people coming together for something bigger than themselves.
People came from all over to be there, including Camp Quaker Haven staff, people from Rose Hill Friends Church, Northridge Friends Church, and others from out of town. Many of them came with the shared purpose of giving back to Camp Quaker Haven, a place that has impacted so many of the lives of people who were there that night. There were around 48 auction families present. It started with hamburgers and hot dogs, people visiting, and everyone walking around looking at the auction items before things got started.
The auction items turned out so well. There were so many different items like desserts, bread, quilts, paintings, pottery, handmade items, gift baskets, and even dinners and services. It showed how much time and effort people put into giving back. Auctioneer Paul Hancock kept the energy up the whole night and made everything feel fun and exciting, even the simplest items.
What stood out most to me was not just the money being raised, but how willing people were to give. There were moments when bids kept going higher than expected, and instead of hesitation, people just kept giving. It felt like God was working through people’s generosity and hearts. No matter if someone donated something, bid on an item, or just showed up to support, everyone played a part in what happened that night.
By the end of the auction, $53,775 was raised, and Rose Hill Friends Church doubled that amount, bringing the total donation to $107,550 for the new multi-use retreat center building at Camp Quaker Haven. That moment showed how much can happen when people come together. It wasn’t just about the number, though, it was about seeing everyone work together and give so freely. The night felt meaningful. It was not just an event or fundraiser, it was fellowship, community, and a reminder that God is still working through people in ways that can have a lasting impact.
