We have made a difficult decision out of concern for the well-being of our students, staff and ministry partners. We will be laying down the 2020-2021 Kaleo Academy Cohort. We trust that God has a plan, all the while knowing it’s a disappointment for our Kaleo Community. All students who have applied this year have been notified of this decision and they will be offered automatic acceptance into the 2021-2022 Kaleo Academy Cohort. Fall seniors, who applied for the 2020-21 cohort, will be contacted by a Kaleo staff member in regards to developing opportunities for them during the 2020-21 school year.
During this year, we want to support and encourage our Kaleo Academy Alumni. Our Kaleo Academy alumni includes students, mentors, sending churches and peer leaders. We will encourage and support them through check-ins asking “How can we help?,” and providing resources that will cultivate opportunities for our young leaders to step into leadership.
We believe that Kaleo Academy is in a unique position to become a National Friends Resource Center during these uncertain times. This will begin with a period of listening to needs within the evangelical Friends Church by using our already established network of Friends Churches and leaders. The Kaleo Academy staff will create a list of needs and develop an overarching resource center to serve the Friends Church through virtual panel discussions, resource pages, coaching, leadership cohorts, Kaleo curriculum, and Growing Young materials. To continue to stay true to the Kaleo Academy mission, Kaleo alumni will be invited to help pilot this step.
Lastly, we will continue to recruit and prepare for the Kaleo Academy 2021-2022 Cohort. We will move ahead with trust that God has a plan. In doing so, the Kaleo Academy staff prayerfully asks that you consider, if you are not already, partnering with us. More details will come to you later. For now, please pray for this year’s students as they process this change of plans and for the Kaleo Academy staff as we pivot to be good stewards of the resources we have been given.
