I am pleased to share with you the good news that we have a great line-up of teachers in the Leadership Institute during the forthcoming months. David Robinson will teach the opening class, February 1, in the course, “Friends Faith and Practice.” Kevin Mortimer will speak on the topic, “Friends Beliefs in the Teachings of Robert Barclay” on March 7, and Derek Brown will teach on “Friends Classics” – major classical writings of Friends through the centuries, on April 4.
David Robinson’s class will focus on the Formation and Development of Evangelical Friends in the 20th and 21st– centuries. David has been a central figure in the making of Evangelical Friends history and can tell the story of our development from the inside.
David Robinson is the son of John and Betty Robinson, who were Quaker pastors in Kansas Yearly Meeting, where John later became Superintendent. David is a graduate of Barclay College. He received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Houston Graduate School of Theology. He was recorded as a Friends Minister in Evangelical Friends Church-Mid America Yearly Meeting. David has served as pastor of Coldwater, Kansas Friends Church, Bayshore, Texas Friends Church, Center Friends Church in North Carolina Yearly Meeting, and Haviland Friends Church. With pronounced leadership gifts in 32 years of Friends pastoral ministry, David served as President of the Houston Graduate School of Theology. We know David most recently in his visionary leadership as General Superintendent of Evangelical Friends Church-Mid America Yearly Meeting. Upon retiring from his service as Superintendent, David has entered new ministries, important among which is serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Barclay College and writing for Barclay Press. David is married to Jan, and they have two children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. How grateful we are to have David, with his experience, commitment, talent, and love for Friends, to be our teacher!
We attempt to make the Institute accessible to Friends anywhere in the world, and now that Drew Davenport uploads the video recorded sessions to YouTube, Friends in any continent can learn from our Institute teachers. If you find it difficult to attend on the evening the Institute is offered, you can view the class at the time most convenient to you. If you have difficulty attending at one of the established Institute sites, you can gather a group in your home or church building and join us live or view the video at the time that is best for you, as they have done in the past at Vancouver Friends Church and Pratt Friends Church.
