Friends University has named Amy Bragg Carey, Ed.D., as the university’s 14th President, effective July 1, 2015. Dr. Carey comes to the university from Saint Paul, Minn., where she has served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at University of Northwestern since 2003.
Dr. John Lewis, D.D.S., Board of Trustees Chair, spoke on behalf of the Presidential Search Committee and the Friends University Board in making the announcement today. “Throughout our process, the Presidential Search Committee approached this search as a calling,” Dr. Lewis said. “We recognized that our decision would shape our university for generations to come. We were dedicated to finding the right person to lead the university.”
Dr. Carey said she was drawn to Friends University because she feels a connection to the Christian mission and values represented at the university. “I see exciting opportunities ahead as we move forward to tell the compelling and important story of Friends University,” she said.
“Education has transforming power, and it is through the influence of dedicated faculty and staff members such as those at Friends University that students’ lives are changed. I am honored to be called to serve as president, and I look forward to becoming an active part of the Wichita and Friends community.”
