Evangelical Friends Mission Board Meetings

By

Lead Superintendent – Thayne Thompson, Superintendent of Pastoral and Church Health – Tony Wheeler, and Director of Pastoral and Church Health – Stacey Wheeler attended the Evangelical Friends Mission Spring Board Meetings at Quaker Ridge Conference Center in Woodland Park, Colorado at the end of May and beginning of June. Two days before the board meetings, EFM held the Future Missionary Retreat to encourage those who might be feeling called into missions. Simultaneous to the Future Missionary meetings, the Superintendents for North America held meetings as well. These meetings help with networking and vision casting, especially in the area of spreading the Good News of the gospel through church planting and missions.

According to the Joshua Project, there are still over 7,000 unreached people groups! This is about 3.23 billion or 41.6% of the world’s population who have not heard the Good News of the gospel.

EFM has a Five-Year Goal that is fueled by the Luke 10 Initiative – sending 10 New Households to 5 New Fields by the End of 2025. Ten exploration teams made trips to ten different destinations and peoples between April 2022 and March 2023. These trips were the first round of exploration in discerning potential new fields for EFM to launch as part of EFM’s Five-Year Goal. It was determined that eight of those destinations require a second trip for further, deeper, exploration. Further exploration will help EFM to begin making decisions about where to make commitments in November 2023 to send North American households to launch new fields. See more information here.

It’s exciting to see that EFM is now sending the second wave of exploration trips to potential new mission fields to discern where EFM and partner yearly meetings will make decisions for launching new fields, based on EFM’s CAN GO Criteria. The next National EFM Luke 10 Think Tank convenes in Oregon in November 2023 with plans to identify which fields EFM will make commitments towards launching by the end of 2025. Ten teams have now explored ten different country/people group destinations on a first Luke 10 Exploration Trip.
