Luke 10:2 Brazil Post Trip Report

By

Matt Macy EFM Director of Mobilization | Phil Burgi Brazil Prayer Trip Participant

Trips are organized in partnership with the regions and yearly meetings that have helped lead the exploration process for each field. Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting and Indiana Yearly Meeting collaboration in giving leadership for the NE Brazil field.

In August 2026, a 10:2 Prayer Trip took place in Brazil. The following is a report for the 10:2 Prayer Trip written by Phil Burgi:

A Prayer Team of eight, representing four churches and three Yearly Meetings, traveled from the USA to Brazil and back July 20-29, 2026. The group included: Jay Hallowell and Phil Burgi from Denver Friends – Rocky Mountain YM; Sherry Schoening, Stephanie Rogers, and Katey and Sydney Till from Wabash Friends – Indiana; and Dan Cammack and Soni McGrew from EFM and Lynwood Friends – Northwest YM.

We traveled to Recife, Brazil where we met with our partners, World Renewal Brazil. After visiting their international school, ABBA Day Camp and a local church, we then traveled inland some 350 miles to the Sertão region of Northeast Brazil. We visited three Quilombola communities with prayer walks, worshiping together, praying for the ministers of the Gospel and the unsaved in the area, and observing and participating in children and youth ministries.

While at the Semear camp near to the community of Santa Terezinha (300 miles inland from Recife), we participated in a day camp meeting organized by the World Renewal Impact Team where 75 high school students and their teachers from a nearby community arrived by bus. Using a high-energy program with a clown, ventriloquist, and various props the message was strongly communicated “NO to Drugs and YES to Jesus”. 60 of the 75 students went forward during a call to commit to following Jesus. “The harvest is plentiful”

He was pleading for help and discipleship in how to handle this evil onslaught to his Christian faith. We prayed for Anchieta and his small Quilombola community. We were reminded “…the enemy… prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”… – “The workers are few”

  • Pray for ministry partners already on the ground in the Sertão – for spiritual courage, encouraging fellowship, and perseverance.
  • Pray for the new believer and Quilombola leader, Anchieta. That the Holy Spirit would move upon him in a marvelous way helping him to persevere and in fact thrive in his Christian faith.
  • Pray for the Quilombola and other people groups in the Sertão of northeast Brazil that they will be able to hear the Gospel, find the light of Jesus, and be well-discipled in their communities where there is so much spiritual darkness.

Pray that God would raise up missionaries from within our churches to serve Him in the Sertão of Northeast Brazil.

We look forward to sharing more news as it becomes available about what we are finding and discerning in EFM’s Luke 10 Initiative.
