Dear Friends in the Church Leadership Institute,
We begin a new course, “Evangelism and Outreach,” on May 4, 2015. How very blessed we are to have Alan Amavisca be our teacher! Alan has been multiplying ministries most of his adult life, and he will share with us from his numerous experiences about ways that we can multiply and grow ministries and churches. Alan Amavisca is Director of Multiplying Ministry for Evangelical Friends Church Southwest. For fourteen years he was a missionary/church planter in Central America, and for ten years a pastor on the Yorba Linda Friends Church ministry team. He has also served at length on the boards of PMI (a Latin American mission to the Islamic world) and Solidarity (an incarnational ministry serving migrant populations). His current role, as the Director of Multiplying Ministry for Friends churches in the Southwest, allows him to use his God-given strengths to challenge, equip, and deploy church planters and missionaries. He has a burden to help American churches explore the possibilities of cross-cultural ministry on their doorsteps. Alan and his wife, Barbara, live in Placentia, California and have four children: Andrea (and her husband, Scott), Aaron (and his wife, Melissa), Kirsten (and her husband, Jordan), and Stephanie (and her husband, Chad), as well as four grandchildren.
Our ability to interact, by seeing and conversing, with one another across all regions of the Friends Church is an amazing gift of God. This allows us to strengthen our relationships and connections with one another. We offer the Institute courses at several sites: Bangor Liberty Friends Church, Lighthouse Friends Church (at the home of Jerry and Mary Louthan), Fowler Friends Church, Friends Community Church (Angleton), Faith Friends Church, Friends Ministry Center (Wichita), Barclay College (Jackson Hall), North Newton (at the home of Merl and Eunice Kinser), Northwest Friends Church (at the home of Tom and Bonnie Bousman), and Arkansas City Friends Church (at the home of Bud Lawrence). Video recorded sessions can be viewed at Pratt Friends Church and Vancouver Friends Church. Other sites where the technology is available to view the classes include: Miami Friends Church, Booker Friends Church, Chandler Friends Church, Hesper Friends Church, Sudanese Community Church (Omaha), and Iglesia Amigos (San Antonio). You can select the time that best fits Friends in your area to view the video recorded sessions on YouTube. We are grateful to Drew Davenport, who uploads the sessions each month. To see the videos go here and click on the video you want to view.
As we look forward to our class on May 4, 2015 at 7:00 central time; 6:00 mountain time, may we focus on Jesus’ teaching, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38 NKJV).
With a commitment to reach others with the Good News of Jesus Christ,
– Dave Kingrey, Director of Leadership Institute
