We are blessed to have Gene Pickard as our presenter at the opening class in our course, “Advancing the Church.” November 7. His topic will be “Friends Global Ministries.” Gene is wonderfully qualified to teach us.
Gene grew up in Salem, Iowa (home of the oldest Friends Church west of the Mississippi, the first Whittier College, and the westernmost station of the Underground Railroad). There he attended the Salem Friends Church, where he committed his life to Christ and received the call to ministry in missions.
Gene is a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School (Iowa), Friends Bible College (now Barclay College), Asbury Theological Seminary, Instituto de Lengua Española, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He holds a Doctor of Missiology degree. Gene is married, for 46 years, to Myra (Williamson) Pickard, native of South Dakota. Gene and Myra have two married children, Heather Haase and Jason Pickard, and four grandchildren.
Gene has ministered through teaching at San Antonio Friends School, Asbury Theological Seminary, Berea Bible Institute in Guatemala, and Barclay College. He is currently teaching in the Master of Arts studies at Barclay College and is the Director and one of the teachers at our Bible Institute for Hispanic Leadership Development (IHPLA in Spanish), a ministry of Evangelical Friends Church Southwest.
We want all Friends to be able to join us for the Institute classes, so we offer them at multiple locations: Bangor Liberty Friends Church, North Newton (at the home of Merl and Eunice Kinser), Lighthouse Fellowship Church (at the home of Jerry and Mary Louthan), Fowler Friends Church, Arkansas City Friends Church (at the home of Bud Lawrence), Friends Ministry Center (Wichita), Neighborhood Friends Church (at the home of Tom and Bonnie Bousman), Friends Bible Training School at the home of David Miller, Noatak, Alaska (Robert Sheldon, Superintendent), Friends Church at Liberal, New Hope Friends Church, Faith Friends Church, Friends Community Church (Angleton), Sudanese Community Church (Omaha), and Barclay College (Jackson Hall). If viewing the class on YouTube is easier for you, here is the link.
Because Drew Davenport graciously uploads the videos on YouTube, Institute sessions have been viewed from as far away as Africa. You may want to gather a group in your church or area to view and discuss the video at a time most convenient to you.
I hope you will join us November 7, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. central time to be enlightened about Friends world ministries and to receive a renewed challenge to take our places in Christ’s Great Commission. Please join us at 6:50 for a time of getting better acquainted with one another.
Eagerly anticipating our fellowship together,
– Dave Kingrey, Director of Leadership Institute
