I am excited to announce that David and Carol Williams will be our first teachers in the forthcoming course, Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction. David and Carol will co-lead the class November 2, and they will give emphasis to the family as the primary arena for spiritual formation and discipleship. Their topic will be “Lasting Impressions: Recapturing the Power of A Formational Family,” based on the shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). Our class will be in the month of Thanksgiving, so as we give thanks for God’s immeasurable blessings, may we remember the wonderful blessing of each one in our Church Leadership Institute, and the leadership of David and Carol Williams.
David and Carol have been partners in full-time Christian service and Friends Pastoral Ministry throughout their more than three decades of marriage. Now they are serving together in the ministry of Evangelical Friends Church – Mid America Yearly Meeting, where David is General Superintendent (or “Lead Pastor,” as he calls himself). David is also Adjunct Professor of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation at Barclay College. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Leadership and Spiritual Formation from George Fox Evangelical Seminary. David and Carol have been my encouragers in the ministry and models for teaching and ministering at Barclay College and in the Friends Church. They are the loving parents of six beautiful children (Josiah, Sarah, Jeremiah, Hannah, Jessie, and Jasmine), and they have six precious grandchildren (Isaiah, Noah, Isabel, Abigail, Lincoln, and Lydia). We also remember David as our first teacher in the Institute, when we expanded beyond South Texas, and he has taught numerous times in the Institute over the past eleven years.
I hope that you will be able to be present at our meeting and that you will encourage others in your church to attend. If the time is not good for you, I encourage you to view the video recorded session on YouTube here. You may want to gather other Friends in your area to see it as well. In the past, Vancouver Friends Church and Pratt Friends Church have taken advantage of the recorded videos for their classes.
The sites now available that will be viewing the class live are: Friends Bible Training School (Alaska Yearly Meeting) at the home of David Miller, Bangor Liberty Friends Church, Lighthouse Friends Church (at the home of Jerry and Mary Louthan), Fowler Friends Church, Friends Community Church (Angleton), Faith Friends Church, Friends Ministry Center (Wichita), Barclay College (Jackson Hall), North Newton (at the home of Merl and Eunice Kinser), Northwest Friends Church (at the home of Tom and Bonnie Bousman), and Arkansas City Friends Church (at the home of Bud Lawrence). Technology is available for live streaming at Miami Friends Church, Booker Friends Church, Chandler Friends Church, Hesper Friends Church, Sudanese Community Church (Omaha), and Iglesia Amigos (San Antonio).
I am very much looking forward to this marvelous opportunity for learning and growing together. The class will meet on November 2, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. central time.
With thanksgiving to God,
-Dave Kingrey, Director of Leadership Institute
